When Nathan Horton left the ice after he was struck by Philadelphia Flyers goon Tom Sestito in a Sunday afternoon matinée in Philly back on January 22, no one knew the extent of Horton’s injuries.

Fans and media alike speculated that Horton had received his second concussion in seven months, days later the Bruins confirmed what everyone had thought.

A couple weeks later Horton returned to the ice and was able to skate as it looked like No.18 was just days away from re-joining line mates Milan Lucic and David Krejci atop the Bruins  top line, but things didn’t go as planned.

(Photo courtesy of Bridget Samuels) The Bruins should say thanks, but no thanks, to acquiring Rick Nash

When Rick Nash gave Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson a list of teams where he would accept a trade to waive his no-trade clause, it was to little or no surprise that the Boston Bruins were on the list.

Nash has unquestionably been one of the Blue Jackets’ only bright spots in his nine seasons with the team; scoring 40-plus goals on two occasions (41 2003-04 and 40 2008-09) and 30-plus goals four times (38 in 2007-08, 33 in 2009-10, 32 in 2010-11 and 31 in 2005-06). But there’s plenty of reasons to think that the Black and Gold should take a pass on the first overall pick of the 2002 Entry Draft.

(Photo: Bridget Samuels/Ikeastan Hockey) Zdeno Chara and the Boston Bruins kick off a very important six-game road trip tonight when they travel to Montreal to take on the Canadiens

No one will ever forget the story of the 2010-11 Boston Bruins. It was a story of up’s and downs which obviously ended with a Stanley Cup Championship, but the path the team took to get there was an interesting one.

Flip the calendar back to last February and you’ll see this year’s team in the same boat as last year’s club. After dropping four of five and three straight overall the Bruins hit the road for a six-game road trip.

When they left Boston and headed for New York they had no idea the next 11 days would change their season, and change it for the best.

The black and gold swept the six-game road trip including an entertaining affair in Vancouver in what many people correctly predicted as a possible Stanley Cup preview.
