Highlights from Brad Marchand’s All-Star Weekend

Brad Marchand’s second All-Star Game nomination was well deserved, but that didn’t stop the crowd in Tampa with welcoming him with boo birds throughout the weekend.

Despite his five-game suspension for elbowing Devils forward Marcus Johansson on Jan. 23, Boston’s leading scorer was able to participate in the skills competition and 3-on-3 tournament at Amalie Arena — home of the Tampa Bay Lightning — during the annual All-Star weekend. With or without the suspension, Marchand would’ve gotten his share of boos.

Like a true villain, Marchand embraced the heckling crowd while soaking in all the fun.

First came a little wave to the crowd prior to the skills competition. Unfortunately for Marchand, he didn’t have an answer during the accuracy shooting portion of the event — as you’ll see below — as he tallied five goals in 44.692 seconds. Only Golden Knights winger James Neal had a longer time at 50.844 seconds.

At least Marchand had a sense of humor at his own expense.

Marchand was once again booed on Sunday prior to the 3-on-3 tournament. This time, he had a different response that was well, quite lovely:

His performance on the ice was a little better. Marchand tallied a goal and an assist in the Atlantic Division’s 7-4 victory over the Metropolitan Division.

Marchand first fed Bolts forward Braden Point on a 2-on-1 to tie things at 4-4:

With the Atlantic ahead 5-4, Marchand extended the lead to two and again gave the sarcastic Tampa crowd a nice wave:

Marchand even channeled his inner pirate between the second and third periods:

Before getting dialed in for the 3-on-3 final against the Pacific Division, All-Star style:

Marchand assisted on both goals by Red Wings defenseman Mike Green, and drew a penalty on Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau but those weren’t enough as the Pacific Division earned the $1 million prize with a 5-2 win in the 3-on-3 finals.

The Bruins return to action Tuesday night against the Ducks but will be without Marchand for the next four games. Marchand will return from the suspension on Feb. 7 against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

At the very least, Marchand got to have some fun with his peers before he resuming his suspension.
