The kids find a way without David Krejci

The Bruins’ 7-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday night featured a full-team effort, including three-point nights from Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen and a Gordie Howe Hat Trick from Charlie McAvoy. The youth movement came up huge.
It kind of had to – David Krejci (upper-body) was a late scratch.
And here’s the thing about that – before Monday’s win, when Patrice Bergeron and Krejci were both in the lineup, the Bruins were 10-3-1. When one of them was out, the Bruins were 5-7-4.
Krejci, who has 14 points (five goals, nine assists) through 18 games this season, is day-to-day and didn’t make the trip to Buffalo for Tuesday’s matchup with the Sabres.
“I feel bad today because when I left the ice he was, from my understanding…fine,” Bruce Cassidy said after the game. “…He didn’t feel good after he got off the ice and talked to the trainers about it. So he’s going to deal with that…he’ll be out tomorrow, but it will be a day-to-day.”
Anders Bjork, expected to be a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game, returned to the lineup in light of the late scratch. He contributed to the rookie effort with an assist and two takeaways.
“I think everyone played a great game,” the ex-Notre Dame standout said after the game. “It was huge for my personal confidence, and I think for our team it was very instrumental as well.”
The veterans showed up as well – the Marchand-Bergeron-David Pastrnak trio came up with five points (two goals, three assists) – but the collaborative effort Monday night was a confidence booster in a back-to-back opener.
The Bruins proved that if they must, they can not only get it done without Krejci, but they can do it by five points. Tuesday night they’ll have to test that theory again on the road.
