In the words of the great Ron Burgundy, “boy that escalated quickly.”
After exchanging a few words at the opening faceoff, Jamie Benn and David Backes wrote another chapter of their bitter on-ice history with one another just two seconds into Sunday’s Bruins-Stars game. A spirited bout between the former Blues captain and Benn essentially turned into a draw as the two engaged in a fight that was roughly 30 seconds in length.
According to HockeyFights.com, Backes and Benn dropped the gloves for the third time against one another. The first came during in December of 2014 and the most recent bout took place nearly one year later in December of 2015.

It’s a trade off the Bruins would gladly take any day of the week. With one-half of the dynamic duo of Benn and Tyler Seguin in the box for five minutes, the Bruins got an early dose of momentum from the bout as Brad Marchand and David Krejci scored 55 seconds apart to give Boston a 2-0 first period lead.
