As things come together, Bruins look to go on a run

Things are starting to round itself out for the Boston Bruins. Their offense is starting to put the puck in the net on a more consistent basis, their power play is finding a rhythm and their play in all three zones is becoming a little more well-rounded since their 3-0 loss to the Devils on January 2.
At a time where they need every point they can get especially with every team in the Atlantic Division having games in hand, the Bruins are starting to find their stride little by little.
With core players like Brad Marchand and Torey Krug on fire and others such as Frank Vatrano picking up the pace following his injury, the B’s are finally getting rewarded with goals that were hard to come by during the first half of the 2016-17 season. All of this is happening while leading goal scorer David Pastrnak is going through a career-long dry spell of 13 straight games without lighting the lamp.
“I think early on we had a lot of moving parts and guys in and out of the lineup, different guys that came in that, we all had to get used to one another and it doesn’t happen overnight – it took half the year,” Marchand said following his five-point output in Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Flyers.
“I think we all realized that we have to be a desperate team and we’re starting to come together and learn each other and finally get some chemistry on the lines. So, all that comes into play and again, I think we’re just starting to connect.”
As things start to shape itself, the Bruins are still looking to separate themselves from the pack. Though they sit second in the Atlantic, the Black and Gold have yet to go on a win streak longer than three games in 2016-17.
With the B’s offensive improvements and continued success from Tuukka Rask and the penalty kill, all that’s needed is for the wins to start piling up. They hope to add another one to the win column tomorrow against an Islanders team that had their way with the Black and Gold at TD Garden last month despite being last in the Eastern Conference standings.
“Yeah. It’s starting to come. We can sense right now, in our locker room, that we’re on the verge of something right now. Hopefully, we can string a few wins together,” said Krug, who has goals in three straight games and 13 points over his last 13. “But, you can see how dangerous our team is when our power play is clicking and our penalty kill is where it’s at and Tuukks [Rask] is seeing the puck the way he is. I don’t think many teams want to play us when we’re at our best.”
In the middle of January, the Bruins are hoping their best efforts turn into positive results.
“I’m not keeping track of how many games, it’s getting better but we always want to keep improving, keep kind of pushing ourselves to be the best that we can be,” captain Zdeno Chara added after notching his third of the year on Saturday. “You know at this time of the year we have to, we have to keep looking to move up and keep building on some positives and good things.”
