Game Day Preview: Bruins vs. Flyers
Share
For the second straight year, TD Garden has not been a friendly place for the Boston Bruins. With points at a premium, that is going to need to change soon as five of their last seven games on Causeway Street take place on Causeway Street, beginning this afternoon against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers come in holding the final wild card spot and one point ahead of the Bruins who are second in the Atlantic Division. They may be 3-5-2 in their last 10, but the “Broad St. Bullies” possess a talented roster that include the likes of first-time all-star Wayne Simmonds, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek and Shayne Gostibehere, just to name a few.
Though they came away as the better team in the first meeting back in late November, the Bruins came out on the short end of the stick in a 3-2 shootout loss in Philadelphia.

Today’s storylines
– For the time being, every Bruins fan is breathing a sigh of relief. Tuukka Rask, who left Thursday’s game against the Predators after taking a Roman Josi slap shot to the collarbone, joined his teammates for practice on Friday. The Finn will get the start this afternoon. His career regular season numbers against the Flyers are quite impressive: 10-2-3, 2.12 GAA, .926 SV%.
– With the Bruins’ power play starting to light the lamp on a more consistent basis, it’s rather fitting that Torey Krug is playing his best hockey of the season. The former Michigan State Spartan has 11 points in his last 12 games – and two goals in as many contests – with six of those points coming on the man advantage. This afternoon, the B’s power play, which has gone up to 23rd in the league with a success rate of 15.9 percent, goes up against the Flyers’ 18th ranked penalty kill (81.5 percent). Getting power play chances may be hard to come by however as the Flyers have been shorthanded 130 times, which are 12th fewest in the league.
