Game Day Preview: Bruins at Panthers
Share
With two games left until the NHL’s brief holiday break, the Bruins hope to carry a little momentum into the holiday weekend with contests in Florida, followed by Carolina.
Coming off an ugly 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders Tuesday night at TD Garden to drop their home record below .500 yet again, the Bruins will look to stack up some points with four straight on the road.
The Bruins have taken both contests against the Panthers this season including a 4-3 overtime victory in Boston on December 5th.
On Tuesday, former Bruin and future hall-of-fame forward Jaromir Jagr tied for second place on the career points list in a 4-3-shootout victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
The Panthers are tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for fourth in the Atlantic Division and sit two points behind the third place Bruins.

Tonight’s storylines:
– Based off of their morning skate in Sunrise, David Pastrnak is back in the lineup after missing the previous two games after having the olecranon bursa removed from his right elbow. Pastrnak leads the Bruins in goals with 19 and still sits second in the NHL, three behind the league-leader Sidney Crosby. The Bruins certainly missed Pastrnak during his two-game absence as they scored just three goals in that span. Frank Vatrano is also set to make his season debut tonight. Thanks to a foot injury suffered during training camp, Vatrano has yet to appear in a game for the Bruins and was recalled by the big club Monday night ahead of the NHL’s holiday roster freeze. For a team who has issues putting the puck in the net, the Bruins will welcome two of their better scorers back with open arms.
– It does not seem like Jaromir Jagr is going to slow down anytime soon. With his 1,887th point Tuesday night, Jagr has tied Mark Messier for second all-time on the NHL points list. With a point tonight, Jagr will find himself all alone in second, only trailing Wayne Gretzky and his 2,857 points. Jagr, who had nine points in 11 games for the Bruins is having another solid season with 19 points in 33 games. History could be made in Florida tonight.
– It’s been well documented that the Bruins have had their fair share of issues against teams in the bottom of the standings at home this season. The Bruins hope that is not the case on the road. The B’s had no issues with Florida so far this season, and they hope to continue that tonight.
