Game Day Preview: Bruins at Red Wings
Share
Entering their last game of October, the Bruins come into Saturday’s contest with the Red Wings looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Without Tuukka Rask, who was nursing a lower body injury, the Bruins were outscored 15-4 in their latest slate against the Canadiens, Wild and Rangers. Rask returned to practice on Friday and manned the visiting net during Saturday’s morning skate in Detroit indicating that barring any last minute setbacks, he will likely get his first start since last Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Devils.
While Rask’s eventual return is an encouraging sign, the Bruins are going to need to be better in all three zones. From creating scoring chances to quick entry passes in transition and staying on their assignments in the defensive zone, the B’s need to come up with a well-rounded performance against a Red Wings squad that has won six of their first eight games.

Tonight’s other storylines
– Tonight marks the first game this season that the Bruins will be without David Pastrnak, who was suspended for two games on Friday for his check to the head on Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi in the second period of the team’s 5-2 loss at Madison Square Garden. Danton Heinen, who showed some promise in the preseason, will fill in for Pastrnak with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. The former University of Denver product has yet to find the scoresheet in five games and has fired just three shots on net over that span. Certainly, he’ll need to be more assertive in his first game skating with Bergeron and Marchand.
– Secondary scoring has been another sore spot for the Bruins and it appears that the lineup will be top heavy again tonight. Aside from Dominic Moore’s two goals, the Bruins third and fourth lines are still looking to light the lamp. Though the fourth line has shown some energy even during this losing skid, the same can’t be said for the third line which mainly features Jimmy Hayes and Matt Beleskey. The duo is a combined minus-14 in seven games.
– With Rask and Zane McIntyre appearing at the morning skate, Malcolm Subban will likely be assigned back to Providence. The 2012 first round pick should be available for the P-Bruins game in Syracuse tonight.
Word is Malcolm Subban expected to start for @AHLBruins in Syracuse tonight
