Marchand and Gallagher a match made in heaven?

Aside from representing their side of the hated Bruins-Canadiens rivalry, Brad Marchand and Brendan Gallagher pose some unique similarities. Their skillset, stature and ability to get under other players’ skin are just a few examples of what Marchand and Gallagher possess on a nightly basis in the National Hockey League.
Both the Bruins and Canadiens missed out on the postseason for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign. That gave Marchand and Gallagher an opportunity to represent Team Canada at the IIHF World Championships currently taking place in Moscow and St. Petersberg, Russia.
For Marchand and Gallagher, it’s also an opportunity to get to know one another as teammates. And they’ve developed quite the chemistry to say the least.
This week alone, Marchand and Gallagher took to Twitter to back Connor McDavid for the NHL 17 cover vote. At the same time, they took some lighthearted jabs at each other in less than 140 characters.
If this gets 10K retweets I’ll jump @bmarch63 when he’s not looking. #NHL17McDavid

That wasn’t the only time Marchand and Gallagher showcased their seemingly newfound chemistry. On Wednesday’s episode of TSN’s That’s Hockey, the two were interviewed by Darren Dreger over a variety of topics from what bothers them the most when facing each other to their social media jabs to their play at the Worlds and the intensity of the Bruins-Canadiens rivalry just to name a few.
“That’s the worst part about this trip, he turned out to be a pretty nice guy” Gallagher joked during the interview.
Although both have crossed the fine line at times, Marchand and Gallagher each have a role to play on their respective teams. Their interactions with others off the ice, however, are similar to the rest of the players in the league according to the Bruins’ leading goal scorer in 2015-16.
“I think in this league we all have a job to do, and that is our role when we get on the ice,” said Marchand, who notched a career-high 37 goals in his sixth full season with the Black and Gold. “I think when you talk to anybody who plays in the NHL when guys get together, everyone is friendly, and we have so much in common it’s easy to become good friends.”
That new found friendship, of course, will be tested when the Bruins and Canadiens meet again next season.
“So we’re good friends off the ice, but I’m sure next year we’re going to have to do our jobs,” Marchand said.
“I have no doubt in my mind that when I line up beside him [next year] that he’ll stick me or do something stupid,” added Gallagher with Marchand laughing in the background.
Marchand and Gallagher have each notched two points during Canada’s 3-0 start in Russia.
