At 35, Chris Kelly was hoping to make the most of the final year of his contract with the Boston Bruins.
One month into the 2015-16 season, that hope is now diminished.
Just three seconds into his only shift against the Stars, Kelly fell awkwardly with his left leg bent out of shape in front of Dallas’ bench. He would need Zdeno Chara and team trainers to assist him off the ice.
For those who missed Kelly’s injury, here is the clip:
Following the hit, Kelly was transported to Mass General Hospital where he was diagnosed with a femur fracture. The veteran is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow and is expected to miss six to eight months.
“Chris sustained a left femur fracture in the first period of the Bruins-Stars game on Tuesday, November 3 and was transported to Mass General Hospital,” Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney said in a team statement. “He will undergo surgery on Wednesday, November 4 at Mass General Hospital and his expected recovery time is between six and eight months.”
The Stars snapped the Bruins’ four-game winning streak with a 5-3 victory at TD Garden on Tuesday night. Stay tuned for complete postgame reaction here on Bruins Daily.
