    Plenty of Bruins deserved honors during a 3-0-0 week that included a two-game sweep in the Sunshine State. But we can only get this list down to three on Weekly 3 Stars, or can we?

    Potential spoiler alert aside, here are this week’s honorees:

    *** Loui Eriksson

    Two years removed from the infamous Tyler Seguin trade, Bruins fans may finally be getting what they were hoping for from Loui Eriksson. The Swede only tallied two points this week, both coming against the Arizona Coyotes, but his production did not drop on the Florida trip.

    From his strong forecheck to his good two-way play, the versatile Eriksson has earned his spot with David Krejci and David Pastrnak on the first line. His health and his production are a critical point of emphasis for the Black and Gold, and Eriksson has provided both so far.

    Eriksson is a free agent at the end of the season. It might be a little early for new GM Don Sweeney to think about re-signing Loui, but he is certainly making his claim for a new contract early on.

    ** Bruins defense and goaltending

    For the goaltending and goal-line that couldn’t get out of its own way in the first three games, the Bruins are finally getting production from their back end.

    After allowing three or more goals in each of his first four starts, Tuukka Rask bounced back in his two starts. The Finnish netminder earned a 24-save shutout Tuesday night against the Coyotes and followed that up with a very solid 31-save performance in Friday’s 3-1 win over the Panthers. More important than his stats, Rask is looking very comfortable moving from post to post and is making some timely saves when his teammates need him.

    But Rask and Jonas Gustavsson also needed improvements from the B’s back end. They got just that from a defense that created turnovers, cleared rebounds and helped transition into offense. Over last week’s three-game stretch, Boston’s blue-liners allowed just two goals on 77 shots (an average of a little over 25 shots per game). That is quite the contrast to the first three games where they allowed 16 goals on 91 shots.

    From better positioning to transitioning up ice, the young Bruins defense has been getting the job done. The question with this unit: can they sustain this recent play?

    * Brad Marchand

    Aside from his game misconduct towards the end of Friday’s action in South Florida, Brad Marchand has kept his nose clean. Even better news: he is finding the net and playing consistent hockey.

    With a pair of points in each of the three games last week, including a two-goal performance against the Panthers, Marchand earned the first star of the week from the National Hockey League. To no surprise, he also earns this week’s No. 1 star on Bruins Daily.

    Marchand, a man of many monikers, is currently second on the team in goals with five and is tied for third in points with nine (along with Eriksson and Jimmy Hayes). His production early on has earned him increased power play time (where he has two goals on the man advantage) and a primary focal point on the team’s penalty kill where he has one of the two shorthanded goals for the Black and Gold.

    Marchand, along with Patrice Bergeron and Brett Connolly, has been the Bruins’ most productive line over the last week. For a trio that has only been together for five games, that is saying something even with the history of chemistry between Marchand and Bergeron.
