Bruins hope new cuts bring good luck at Cuts for a Cause

With all the turmoil they’ve endured during the 2014-15 season, the Bruins hope they can find a lucky charm with nine games left in the 2014-15 season. Perhaps that will come by the form of a few haircuts.
On Tuesday, the Bruins hosted the eighth annual Cuts for a Cause to benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. Toucher and Rich from 98.5 The Sports Hub moderated the event at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
After the Ottawa Senators downed the San Jose Sharks on Monday, the Bruins are now in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. They trail their Atlantic Division foes, who have a game in hand, by one point for the final wild card spot.
The B’s will certainly have time to address their glaring flaws before they return to action Thursday against the Western Conference leading Anaheim Ducks. But, for a few hours, they got to put a smile on fans faces and contribute to a good cause.
“We always seem to do [Cuts for a Cause] around this time, and it’s always brought us some luck. said Milan Lucic, who is the only Bruin to participate in each of the eight events for Cuts for a Cause. “Hopefully it can bring us some luck again when we need it the most. And, again, just to have the fans with us in kind of our last event before the [regular] season ends, and like I said, it’s fun to see all the support.”
“It’s always great to have a chance to meet the fans for a few hours, to do something for the community and to do something for a great cause,” said Patrice Bergeron, who spearheaded the event for the first time after taking over for former teammate Shawn Thornton. “I think all the guys can relate to that. It’s for a great cause and it’s a great thing [for us].”
For the first time, every member of the Bruins participated in the annual event. This year’s festivities raised over $130,000 (a new record).
A few of the Bruins, like David Pastrnak and Ryan Spooner, got their heads shaved for the first time at Cuts for a Cause.
Loui Eriksson, who was also a first time participant, was a little hesitant in taking part of the cause, but caved in at the end.
“It was hard,” Bergeron said about getting Eriksson involved. “I needed Marshy [Brad Marchand] to help me with it and [it involved] a lot of negotiating. I don’t like to intimidate, so I was trying to be respectful. It took some time, but we got it done.”
“Everybody is excited to see everybody [get their head shaved], but if I had to pick one guy, it has to be Loui,” Zdeno Chara added about who he wanted to see get their head shaved the most. “It’s not easy – he really likes his hair – but he really stepped up and got out of his comfort zone, and I’m really happy he did that.”
As difficult as this season has been, the Bruins are hoping a few hours away from the ice can provide another bonding experience.
Still, seeing a passionate group of fans having a good time, and donating to a good cause, was well worth it.
