Former Bruin Johnny Boychuk signs contract extension with Islanders

Trading Johnny Boychuk to the Islanders for two second round picks prior to the start of the 2014-15 season is one of Peter Chiarelli’s questionable transactions during his tenure as General Manager. And now any hope of a reunion after this year is now put to rest.
My sense of situation w/Johnny Boychuk & Isles is that there’s very little chance he will re-sign there after this season. He wants Cups

On Thursday, the Islanders announced that they signed Boychuk to a seven-year contract worth $42 million.
Boychuk announced the deal on Twitter, which was later confirmed by Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Yes! Yes! Yes! For seven more years!!

This season has been the most productive season for Boychuk to date. In 59 games with the Islanders, he’s notched career highs in every offensive catergory (7 goals, 25 assists, 32 points) while averaging 21:37 of ice time per night. The former Bruin has been a big reason for the resurgence on Long Island as the upstart Isles have stayed atop the Metropolitan Division in 2014-15.
The Avs second round pick of the 2002 draft was acquired by the Bruins on June 24, 2008, in exchange for Matt Hendericks. Boychuk played in 273 games from 2008-2014 tallying 75 points (19 goals, 56 assists) while also notching 198 penalty minutes and was a plus-88 during his six-year tenure with the Black and Gold.
With all the problems in the Bruins’ defensive end this season, the beloved Boychuk is still missed in Boston, but is a tremendous fit with a young and talented Islanders squad.
