David Krejci speaks on recent injury

The snowball effect continues to haunt the 2014-15 Boston Bruins.

At this rate, it’s safe to call it an avalanche even.

On Monday, the Bruins announced that David Krejci would be out 4-6 weeks after suffering a partial tear of the MCL in his left knee during the team’s 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Friday night.

This isn’t the only injury Krejci has suffered in the 2014-15 season. Earlier he was dealing with a hip issue that plagued him for the first three months of the campaign. The Czech-born center returned to the lineup from his hip issues on December 17th and skated every game up until Sunday’s 6-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

A frustrated Krejci, who signed a six-year contract extension right before training camp, will have another setback to overcome. But he won’t be the one to spread negativity around the B’s locker room.

“It’s been a tough season with all the injuries and stuff, but at this point you’ve got to stay positive,” Krejci said to the media during the team’s morning skate on Tuesday. “There’s a saying, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? I’ve got to stay positive and work my way back and try to be a better player than I was.”

Krejci should be healthy enough to return in April if all goes according to plan. If he goes on long-term injured reserve, then Peter Chiarelli will have a little extra cap space to work with prior to the trade deadline, which is this coming Monday.

As much as he wants to see the team do well without him, Krejci is hoping to return sooner rather than later.

“That’s not really what I want to think about right now,” Krejci told reporters about the injury, the playoffs and the upcoming trade deadline. “I just want to get back as soon as I can and as healthy as I can be. I know they said four-to-six weeks, but I’m going treat my knee every day, I’m going to do the best I can to be back as fast as I can.”

“We’re fighting for the last [playoff] spot,” Krejci added. “I believe in this group.”

The Bruins fared pretty well without Krejci (26 points in 38 games) on Sunday as they salvaged a win in the last contest of their five-game road trip on Sunday against the Blackhawks. They’ll need to have that same sense of urgency as they host the Canucks and continue try to hold off the Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers, who trail the Bruins by three and four points, respectively, for the final wild card spot.
