Quick hits: Bruins score twice but still trail Stars after two
Share
First Period:
Antoine Roussel’s night ended earlier than expected as Roussel was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a cross check to the face of Adam McQuaid. The penalty came just over three minutes into the game. Not only did the Bruins fail to score on the five-minute power play, they also allowed Vernon Fidler to score shorthanded to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
The Bruins got the goal back on a nice play by the Krejci line. Milan Lucic’s presence along the boards caused a turnover. Lucic fed the puck to David Pastrnak and the 18-year old found a open Krejci who had no problem tying the game at one.
Rough period for Dougie Hamilton to say the least. Hamilton was completely out-muscled by Jamie Benn and Benn made Hamilton pay for it as rifled his 17th goal of the season past Niklas Svedberg. A pretty goal indeed.
Not the start that Svedberg and the Bruins wanted as Svedberg allowed three goals on 10 shots. Poor rebound control on the third Stars goal led to Benn’s second tally of the night.
Second Period:
Very weird few minutes after the teams took the ice to start the second period. After sending out Svedberg for the second period, Claude Julien calls him back and sends out Tuukka Rask. Rask makes a save on the first shot he sees which sends the Bruins in transition and leads to a Patrice Bergeron shorthanded goal.
Hamilton made up for his performance in the first period by being at the right place at the right time. Torey Krug’s point shot was knocked down in front of the Stars’ net. Hamilton was right on the puck to tap in his 9th goal of the year and help the Bruins tie the Stars once again.
Overall a much better period for the Bruins, but still not perfect. The Bruins wasted a four-minute power play by allowing a their second shorthanded goal of the period to Trevor Daily and then negated the remaining two minutes thanks to a penalty to Carl Soderberg.
David Pastrnak leads all Bruins forwards in time on ice with 13:52.
