Game Day Preview: Bruins at Rangers
Share
The Boston Bruins will look for their third straight victory as they travel to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Rangers on Wednesday night.
The B’s are coming off two big victories against formidable opponents beating the New York Islanders and Los Angeles Kings in back-to-back games.
In their latest victory against the Kings on Saturday night, Tuukka Rask stopped 30 of 31 shots while notching his 22nd victory of the season. Brad Marchand potted two goals while Chris Kelly scored the other.

On January 15th these two teams met for the first time of the 2014-2015 season where Claude Julien’s team dominated from start to finish blanking the Rangers 3-0. Henrik Lundqvist indeed received the night off resulting in the Blue Shirts trotting out Cam Talbot. Lundqvist will miss another start against the Bruins as he nurses an upper-body injury, so Talbot will get his second start of the season against the Black and Gold.
Patrice Bergeron scored four minutes into the game while Torey Krug added two assists on the night. Rask recorded the shutout with a 30 save performance.
The Rangers hold a one point lead over the B’s for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference while having two games in hand. The Blue Shirts home record sits at 16-7-3 while the B’s away record sits at 11-9-3.
The Bruins come into the match up with an 8-1-1 stretch, while Rick Nash and company are 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Who to watch for Bruins: Brad Marchand
The last time these two teams played Marchand was almost a non-factor. He was remembered for his slew-foot on Derick Brassard, which resulted in a two-game suspension. Although he had a plus-1 rating, he had zero shots on net in 13:35 of ice time.
Since returning from his suspension, the 26 year-old has three goals including his two goals against Jonathan Quick and the Kings Saturday night. Marchand leads the team with 15 goals on the season while sporting a plus-13 rating only trailing Kevan Miller (plus-15) for the team lead.
In his career against the Blue Shirts, Marchand has tallied three goals and three assists in 16 games played. The second line left-winger also has six goals and eight assists in 21 road games this season.
Goals may be hard to come by tomorrow night, but Marchand scored twice on Quick Saturday night. We’ll see if he can continue his solid play tonight.
Who to watch for Rangers: Rick Nash
Nash leads the NHL in goals with 31 while his 46 points rank him 13th overall. His two-goal performance against the Panthers lifted his team to the 6-3 victory. Over his last two games, the former Blue Jacket has three goals.
Nash’s four short-handed goals rank him first in the NHL, his five game-winning goals rank him fifth while his 179 shots on net rank him sixth. Nash’s plus-19 ranks him ninth. In other words, Nash has been unworldly this year.
In his career against the Black and Gold, Nash has just three goals in 16 games to go along with a minus-7 rating. Zdeno Chara and company do a great job of containing the left-winger, but they’ll still be tested against the top goal scorer in the league tonight.
Game Day Edge: Keep the momentum going
The B’s have won two in a row against quality opponents. They are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Julien’s team should stick to their plan and keep the momentum going.
It may be difficult playing away from home, but they just steamrolled the New York Islanders who held a 17-4-0 at home and beat the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
Julien has his team playing their best hockey of the season and with a three day rest, it can only help the B’s who have been beat up all season long.
The formula is simple for the Black and Gold – score early, build a lead and make sure the defensive layers are intact. The past two games the B’s accomplished that feat and walked away with four points. It should be no different Wednesday night in a tilt with the Blue Shirts.
