Marchand set for Friday phone hearing after slew foot

The Bruins may be without Brad Marchand for a game or two as the Bruins’ forward is set to have a phone hearing Friday afternoon with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety regarding his slew foot of Rangers’ forward Derek Brassard in Thursday’s 3-0 shutout of the Rangers.
Because the hearing is a phone hearing, Marchand can not be suspended for more than five games. Marchand was fined in December of 2011 after a slew foot of then Penguins’ defenseman Matt Niskanen. Marchand’s prior history will loom large in the league’s decision.
Understandably so, Brassard was not happy with the slew foot. Marchand was not penalized for the play on the ice.
“The way I fell on the ice I maybe could’ve missed the rest of the season if I hurt my knee there, but luckily enough there” said Brassard. “Like I said, Marchand’s a pretty good player, he’s feisty, competes hard, but those kind of things we don’t want that in our game.”
