With the Boston Bruins cruising to their fifth straight victory, Patrice Bergeron and Tuukka Rask led the way en route to the 3-0 victory.

Rask turned away 30 shots from the New York Rangers Thursday night while notching his second shutout this season and the 25th of his career.

Bergeron got the troops rolling with his 11th goal of the year beating Cam Talbot five-hole while the Black and Gold never looked back.

It was the same story for Bergeron who scored his fourth goal in six games. He played 15:19 while skating 2:09 on the penalty kill holding the Blue Shirts scoreless on three attempts on the man advantage. The second-line center also won 56 percent of his face offs resulting in just another day at the office for No. 37.

It is no coincidence that the Bruins core players are starting to heat up resulting in their recent success. One night it’s David Krejci. Another night it’s Milan Lucic. On this night, it was Bergeron and Rask. Both players raised their game against a red-hot Rangers team.

Rask held the Blue Shirts scoreless on the night which is a remarkable feat seeing Alain Vigneault’s team had won 13 of 15 contests coming into TD Garden. The Finnish netminder hasn’t lost a home game in regulation since December 11th against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The reigning Vezina winner is feeling confident about his performances as of late.

“Yeah, I have played good, but then again when the team plays good in front of you it makes it that much easier,” Rask said after his 30 save shutout on Thursday night. “Having the scoring chances down a bit, you know earlier in the year it used to be 15-20 scoring chances, the odds are you are going to give up two or three goals. Now when it’s close to 10, or if it’s 9 or 11, it helps a lot. I have felt pretty much the same all year, but now I’m not getting stupid bounces and we are playing a really good team defense so that results in goals against going down.”

Without hesitation, head coach Claude Julien knew who his No. 1 star was on this night.

“He was really good for us tonight,” Julien said about Rask. “This team has a lot of speed, the Rangers, and we acknowledged that before the game. They certainly displayed it at times and when there was the odd breakdown and they had opportunities to score, Tuukka was up to the task there and made some big saves for us. No doubt in my mind that he was our best player tonight.”

Even Chris Kelly was impressed with Rask’s performance tonight, not only in the first 20 minutes, but the game’s entirety.

“I thought Tuukka played unbelievable tonight,” Kelly said. “Not only in the first period, but that breakaway by (Rick) Nash in the second. It’s a different game if he doesn’t make a big save there. He was our best player tonight and he’s been our best player for a while, so it’s good to see.”

The Black and Gold have impressed lately and it’s because of their stars living up to expectations. Bergeron now leads the team in points with 32 and Rask is back on track with 19 wins on the year ranking him 10th in the NHL.

Rask has won his last four starts and owns a 7-0-3 record in his last 10 between the pipes. On the offensive side, of Bergeron’s 11 goals, eight of them have put his team ahead and the other three have tied the game.

Thursday night, Bergeron opened the game with a goal and it turned out to be the game-winner due to his shutdown goaltender.
