Game Day Preview: Bruins at Flyers
Share
Don’t look now but the Boston Bruins have won two games in a row and are now are riding a six-game point streak.
After back-to-back wins against the Penguins and Devils, the Black and Gold have moved back into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern conference.
In their latest victory against the Devils, it was a full 60-minute effort for the Bruins. The B’s outshot the Devils 43-14 en route to a 3-0 win behind two goals by Milan Lucic. Niklas Svedberg received his fifth victory of the season while notching his second shutout of his career.
The B’s will look for their third win in a row when they travel to Philadelphia to face the underachieving Flyers Saturday afternoon for a matinee where Loui Eriksson is a game-time decision.

Who to watch for Bruins: Milan Lucic
It is possible the criticism has finally reached Bruins first-line winger Milan Lucic. When new CEO Charlie Jacobs called out his team in a press conference earlier this week, Lucic knew he was one of the main culprits.
Since then, the B’s have won two straight with wins over the Penguins and Devils, but more importantly, Lucic has two goals, two assists, a plus-4 rating, five shots on net and has averaged over 18 minutes of ice time.
When the Black and Gold are playing their physical and rugged style of hockey, Lucic needs to lead the way. Recently, he has. He’s moving his feet, fore-checking hard and taking the puck to the net.
Lucic now has eight goals on the year ranking him fourth on the team. If the eighth-year power forward can produce like he has in the past two games, make no doubt about it the B’s will climb up in the Eastern Conference standings.
Who to watch for Flyers: Jakub Voracek
Much like the Bruins needed to contain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin Wednesday night, they will need to do the same with Jakub Voracek Saturday afternoon.
Voracek has been on a rampage this season for the Flyers. In 41 games, he leads the NHL in assists with 33 and points with 49.
In his last five games, the 25 year-old has two goals and an assist. His goal Thursday night against the Capitals was a game-winner. He isn’t afraid to let it rip either. Over those five games, he has 17 shots on net.
Last season, Voracek turned in 23 goals and 39 assists in 82 games. He is certainly on pace to shatter those records in a down year for the Broad St. Bullies.
Game Day Edge: Take another step forward
We’ve seen the Bruins win two games in a row this season, but then the following game we’ve seen letdowns. That can’t happen against a lowly opponent like the Flyers. Yes, they have talent, but the B’s have more and need to come out of the gates fast.
A dominant win over the Devils is what the B’s have to do against inferior opponents especially with the amount of ground Claude Julien’s team needs to make up.
Unlike their shootout loss to the Hurricanes last week, the Bruins can’t take the Flyers for granted.
It seems as if the message was understood from Jacobs and the B’s are back to playing their brand of hockey. The confidence is growing and another win could get them off and running.
