Game Day Preview: Bruins at Jets
Share
The Boston Bruins will look for back-to-back wins for the first time since they defeated the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets back on November 18th-21st.
Coming off a desperate overtime win against the Minnesota Wild, the Black and Gold aim to take a possible five out of six points on this mini three game road trip.
With the return of David Krejci, Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson were reunited on Wednesday night. Soderberg scored and assisted on Eriksson’s game winner in overtime to lift the B’s to a 3-2 win. Niklas Svedberg stood tall yet again spelling Tuukka Rask for the evening stopping 35 of 37 shots earning his fourth victory of the season.

The Bruins will look to beat the Winnipeg Jets tonight for the second time in less than a month. On November 28th, Dougie Hamilton netted an overtime game-winning goal to give the B’s a 2-1 victory at TD Garden.

Who to watch for Bruins: Loui Eriksson
Eriksson scored the game-winner on Wednesday night against the Wild and really seems to be playing with more confidence as of late.
Reunited with Soderberg, Eriksson was more aggressive on a line that also included Kelly, a place he is familiar with. On the B’s first goal, the 29 year-old was in a scrum in front of the Wild net fighting for the puck where he then slid a one-handed pass off-balance to Soderberg who buried a goal to give the B’s a brief 1-0 lead. That’s the Eriksson that Peter Chiarelli acquired in the Tyler Seguin trade.
Over Eriksson’s last five games, he has four points (three goals and an assist) to go along with a plus-3 rating. He is slowly creeping up the Black and Gold’s point leader list as he now has 17 points on the year only trailing Brad Marchand (19), Soderberg (21) and Patrice Bergeron (22). He is tied for second on the team in goals with six along with Milan Lucic, Soderberg and Bergeron.
Eriksson is starting to find his game when the B’s need it most and now that Krejci is back on the ice healthy, the Swede should see most of his time alongside Kelly and Soderberg – a place where he flourishes.
Who to watch for Jets: Andrew Ladd
Ladd is tied for the point lead on the Jets team with 23 including 11 goals and 12 assists on the year. He is right on pace to match or exceed his 23 goals and 31 assists he had during the 2013-2014 campaign.
In his last five games, the fourth overall pick of the 2004 NHL Draft has scored two goals and added two assists.
In his 27 games played against the B’s, Ladd has seven goals, five assists, 13 hits, 12 blocked shots and 71 shots on net. So, he has some success against the Black and Gold. He wasn’t much of a factor the last time these two teams played on November 28th. He had zero points, one hit and six shots on net.
The B’s back end looks like they are back to their physical selves so let’s see if they can keep the trend going and keep Ladd off the score sheet.
Game day Edge: Keep trending upward
It has been a successful road trip so far for the Black and Gold as they took a possible three out of four points in their first two games. Now, it’s time to finish the deed and grab another two points in Winnipeg.
With the return of Zdeno Chara and David Krejci, the B’s are nursing back to health and have some ground to make up in the Eastern Conference. Building a win streak is what this team needs at this point in the season especially with the lowly Sabres on deck.
It’s simple. When the Bruins score first, they are tough to play against. When they build a two-goal lead, they are even tougher to play against. Maybe this is the time the B’s build a lead and have a comfortable win, but the Jets are stingy and they are playing good hockey lately.
