Game Day Preview: Bruins vs. Blues
Share
After two embarrassing losses to the Maple Leafs and Canadiens last week, the Boston Bruins found themselves taking a step back after a five-game win streak. Then, on Saturday the Black and Gold took another step forward beating the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 at TD Garden.
Tuesday night will be a stiff test as the St. Louis Blues roll into town.
The good news for the Bruins is David Krejci skated with teammates yesterday for the first time in two weeks and could be in the lineup after taking part in the morning skate. Defenseman Kevan Miller is cleared to play also deeming him a game-time decision. The bad news for the B’s, Brad Marchand missed practice yesterday and left morning skate and will be out tonight against the Blues.
To recap: Miller a game time decision Marchand out No decision on Krejci yet Tuukka to get the start

The Black and Gold will need all the reinforcements they can get as the Blues swept the B’s last season and have also won the past six meetings in Boston.
St. Louis comes into TD Garden having won 10 of it’s last 11 games. The B’s will need to find a way to contain this Stanley Cup caliber team as they hold a 4-1-1 record away from home.

Who to watch for Bruins: Matt Fraser
Matt Fraser has some big shoes to fill as he steps in on the Bruins second line alongside Patrice Bergeron and Reilly Smith.
Head coach Claude Julien said Marchand is not doing well and will be out tonight against the Blues so it’s Fraser’s time to step up and make a difference for his team on the second line tonight.
Since his two-goal effort against the Senators, Fraser has not recorded a point. It’s something to keep an eye on because if he doesn’t start producing he could find himself the odd man out once Marchand and Krejci return.

With Bergeron leading the way for Fraser, the rookie forward hopes to bring back the confidence he had against the Sens a couple of weeks ago.
Who to watch for Blues: Vladimir Tarasenko
It seems every time you watch highlights of a Blues game, Vladimir Tarasenko is making highlight reel plays to help his team win. In 17 games this season, the 22 year-old has 10 goals and 11 assists good for 21 points which ranks him sixth in the National Hockey League. His plus-15 rating is good for second and his 66 shots on net rank him seventh.
This is a very talented individual who produces on a nightly basis. Over his last five games, Tarasenko has two goals, five assists and a plus-7 rating. Coming off a season where he played 64 games and scored 21 goals while assisting on 22 others, Tarasenko is an up and comer.
The Blues have lost only one game in their last 11 contests and one of the main reasons is the play of their talented right-winger. The Bruins blue-line that has been shaky lately, and needs to be sharp, as they hope to contain the 16th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Game Day Edge: Preserve home ice, get statement win
The Bruins may have been on a five-game win streak, but the talent of their competition was not top notch. A win is a win in the NHL, but it would be a nice confidence boost for the Black and Gold to beat the red hot Blues.
The B’s had their chance to get their signature wins last week against the Maple Leafs and Canadiens away from home, but laid a massive egg. Tonight, they get their shot on home ice in front of their home crowd with the potential return of first-line center David Krejci.
The B’s played the Blues very tough last season both games going beyond regulation (resulting in losses) and it may be no different at TD Garden tonight. Both teams are aggressive, smart and stick to their systems.
With games against the Habs, Penguins and Blue Jackets looming, the Bruins hope to make a big statement in the start of this tough four-game stretch.
