Brad Marchand finding his groove as Bruins climb over .500

Entering Thursday’s contest in Buffalo, things were not going to well for Brad Marchand.
In the middle of a slump that saw him register just three points in 11 games, Marchand snapped out of his funk against the Sabres. After assisting on Adam McQuaid’s second period tally, Marchand followed that up by scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in what was an ugly win for the Bruins in Buffalo.
On Saturday with the Bruins looking to climb over the .500 mark for the first time since defeating the Flyers on opening night, Marchand picked up right where he left off.
Marchand got the Bruins on the board first Saturday night. Seconds after a Patrice Bergeron faceoff win, Marchand’s shot trickled through the five-hole of Senators’ goalie Robin Lehner and into the back of the net for his team leading fourth goal of the season.
“Bergy [Bergeron] has always been great on his draws, he won that one perfectly and I just tried to get it on net and luckily it went in,” Marchand said of Bergeron’s faceoff win.
With three goals in two games Marchand is heating up for the Bruins, but head coach Claude Julien knows the best is yet to come for Marchand.
“A guy struggles sometimes to get himself going and as much as he thinks he’s skating the way he can and I thought he skated better at the beginning of this year than he did at the beginning of last year. “So I think it was a step in the right direction,” Julien said. “I think we were just able to see a little bit more from Brad and it’s coming. Last game was a good indication of that, he was again a little bit better tonight, but I still think Brad can be even better than that
As happy as Marchand is that the goals are finally coming, he also knows he can be better.
“A little bit, I mean I think those are just a couple of breaks that have gone my way,” said Marchand. “Still don’t think I played a great game tonight but something to build off of and it is nice to get on the board.”

Marchand was a different player against the Senators for sure.
Finishing the game with a team-high three hits, Marchand says he was more involved.
“Yeah definitely, I think that gets you more into the game and they seemed to allow guys to play that way tonight,” Marhcand said. “So it’s tough trying to play within the rules there but I definitely felt more involved and grittier.”
As the Bruins battle through inconsistency and injuries, the Bruins need all the help they can get. Marchand getting going could be the start to something special for the Bruins.
After skating on a line with Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson last game, Marchand was back to his normal position next to Bergeron and Reilly Smith, a comfortable position for the fifth-year forward. That comfort level showed as the Bruins dropped the Senators in Boston, 4-2.
