Many Bruins fans knew that last night was going to be a physical game with the Buffalo Sabres. Unfortunately for Shawn Thornton, he stepped in to try and fight John Scott to give the fans what they wanted. Scott has six inches and 53 pounds on Thornton and that did not bode well for Thornton.

Thornton could never get situated during the bout, not to mention he did not have the reach Scott had and Thornton took multiple blows to the head. The fight ended quickly with Thornton on the ground. It was one of the only times you will ever see No. 22 get man-handled.

Thornton never returned to the game and according to the Boston Bruins, Thornton will miss the next 7-10 days with a concussion.

Many Bruins fans were agitated that Milan Lucic or Zdeno Chara did not step in to fight Scott, but the point they are not getting is the Bruins could ill-afford to lose Lucic or Chara for five minutes. Scott is out there for one reason only-to fight. He has no skill and only averages about four minutes of ice time per contest. Do the math compared to Lucic and Chara.

With that being said, the Bruins have recalled Jamie Tardif from Providence on an emergency basis. Tardif will join the Bruins for practice on Friday, February 1st at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington and travel with the team to Toronto for their game on Saturday, February 2nd against the Maple Leafs.

Tardif currently leads the Providence Bruins in scoring this season with 21 goals while adding nine assists in 39 games. His 21 goals ranks second overall in the American Hockey League.
