Bruins Daily will be taking a look at the top 10 Bruins games of the 2011-2012 season.
Today, we take a look at No. 5: March 27, 2012 Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Boston Bruins
What more can you say about Captain Zdeno Chara? He is as durable as they come and he proved it on this night playing in his 1,000th career National Hockey League game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. Chara and the Bruins edged the Lightning 5-2 behind three assists from Big Z.
The Lightning looked like they are were going to spoil Chara’s milestone night as Steven Stamkos scored an early goal on Tim Thomas, but Boston’s tough guy Shawn Thornton answered five minutes later to even the score at one heading into the first intermission. From this point on, it was all Bruins. Dennis Seidenberg, Benoit Pouliot, Brad Marchand and Rich Peverly all netted goals to lead the Bruins to a 5-2 win.
This night was all about Chara. He was honored before the game for his accomplishment and then added to his impressive resume with three more assists. This is one man the Bruins cannot live without and he proves to the team every night why he is so valuable.
Steven Stamkos also proved to the Bruins and the rest of the National Hockey League why he is one of the best up-and-coming stars to the league lighting the lamp twice for the Lightning.
Tim Thomas was not tested that often in this game stopping 16 of 18 shots, but it was good enough to seal the victory for the Bruins on Chara’s milestone night.
