Bruins Daily player of the week: Feb. 6-12
Share
For the first time in Bruins Daily history, two players share the honors for the player of the week.
After a 6-0 drubbing from the Buffalo Sabres, the Boston Bruins bounced back with a 4-3 shootout win over the Nashville Predators in a Saturday matinee at TD Garden. Patrice Bergeron tallied the shootout winner to go on top of his shorthanded goal at the 16:00 mark of the first period (his 16th of the year), while Milan Lucic tallied his 20th of the season — on the power play — with a little over a minute left in the third and forced overtime.
In his 20:17 of ice time Saturday, Bergeron tallied three shots and won 60 percent of his faceoffs (15 of 25). Lucic, tallying 18:56 of ice time, fired seven shots and drove hard to the net all day, which drew attention from the Nashville defense.
Where one can make a claim for either Bergy or Lucic to be this week’s recipient, both proved to be vital and propelled the Bruins to a much-needed win in an inter-conference matchup. Thus, both recipients earn this week’s Bruins Daily player of the week.
Bergeron, leading the team with 47 points, earns the player of the week for the third time in 2011-12 tying Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand for top honors. Lucic, the Bruins’ third leading scorer with 41 points, gets the award for the second time this season.
