Bruins Daily player of the week: Dec. 19-25

Two games, two wins and four points.
The Boston Bruins couldn’t have asked for anything less before their holiday break extending their winning streak to six in the process. The Black and Gold (23-9-1, 47 points) currently lead the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers (46 points each) by one point in the Eastern Conference standings and trail the league leading Chicago Blackhawks (48 points) by a single point.
A big part of the recent success is due to the contributions of second year forward Brad Marchand, who earns Bruins Daily player of the week honors for the second time this season and his first since the beginning of the season.
Marchand scored an important tally during the third period of the Bruins’ 3-2 win over the archrival Montreal Canadiens and followed that up with his first career hat trick in the team’s 8-0 shellacking of the Florida Panthers.
A former third round pick in 2006, Marchand is now the team’s second leading scorer with 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) trailing Tyler Seguin (14 G, 17 A, 31 P) through the first 33 games of the 2011-12 season. His plus-25 — good for second behind Seguin (plus-26) — matches last year’s where he tallied 41 points (21 G, 20 A) in 77 games.
Marchand is the second member to earn multiple Bruins Daily player of the week honors joining Seguin (three) and Chris Kelly (two) in accomplishing that feat.
