Today we take a look at No. 8: February 26, 2011. Boston Bruins vs. Vancouver Canucks
Many “experts” predicted a Bruins and Canucks Stanley Cup Final, and this early preview certainly lived up to the hype. It was a battle of the NHL’s two best defensive teams. Behind a stellar Tim Thomas, the Bruins took down the Canucks 3-1.
Lucic who was honored by his hometown junior hockey team, the Vancouver Giants the night before, broke the tie with just 4:38 left in in the third when he knocked in a loose rebound giving the Bruins the 2-1 lead. Minutes later Patrice Bergeron would score on the empty net securing the victory for the B’s.
Lucic also assisted on Nathan Horton’s second period goal, and Bergeron’s empty net goal for a three-point-night.
The Bruins held star twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin to a combined two shots-on-goal.
For the majority of the game it was a Thomas vs. Luongo battle. Thomas had 27 saves, Luongo 22.
