Chiarelli confident in Bruins’ defensive pipeline

The Boston Bruins wasted no time in addressing their cap-crunching issues with Step 1 now out of the way.
Today, the B’s traded defenseman Matt Huniwck and his $1.450 million salary to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for prospect blue-liner, and former B.U. standout, Colby Cohen. With the transaction, Boston has cleared sufficient salary-cap space to lift center Marc Savard from the long-term injured reserve list and plug the All Star pivot back in the line-up.
“This will be enough to activate Marc Savard when he’s ready to play,” said Bruins’ general manager Peter Chiarelli during tonight’s conference call to the media.
