Share
The Boston Bruins host the Hurricanes Hurricanes today at 12:00 noon, EST, in a turkey hangover matinee at the TD Garden.
The last time these two Eastern Conference foes squared-off in a post-Thanksgiving Day matinee in Boston was in 2006, when Tim Thomas took a 5-1 loss at the TD Garden. Patrice Bergeron scored the lone Bruins goal.
Since the Peter Chiarelli regime took over in 2006, Boston has gone 2-1-1 in games the day after Thanskgiving:
2009: 2-1 (SO) loss to New Jersey Devils. Tuukka Rask took the loss, Blake Wheeler scored the regulation — and shootout — goal. Bergeron and David Krejci missed their shootout attempts.
2008: Crushed the New York Islanders 7-2. Manny Fernandez got the “W” between the pipes for Boston, while six different players lit the lamp: Phil Kessel, Chuck Kobasew, David Krejci, Michael Ryder (2), Blake Wheeler, and Dennis Wideman
2007: Beat the Isles 2-1: Tim Thomas got the 25-save victory, while Glen Metropolit and Glen Murray scored for the Black and Gold.
- These two clubs are meeting for the 175th time in franchise history — including Hartford — with the B’s holding a 92-64-16-2 record, while outscoring the Whalers, ‘Canes 602-518
- Boston is 51-29-7-1 in their 88 home games against the Carolina franchise, with a 306-234 scoring edge over that span
- The Bruins are 8-1-0 in their last 9 games overall versus the ‘Canes, with their sole loss, 5-1, coming on Jan. 24, 2010
- Boston has skated past Carolina in their last four home games, with their last home loss to the ‘Canes a 3-2 loss on Feb. 12, 2008
Cam Ward will be in net this afternoon for Carolina.
