RDS.ca has reported earlier this morning that former Boston Bruins center Steve Begin has signed a one-year deal with the Nashville Predators, reported to be worth $550,000.
Nashville, with a 3-0-2 record, sits second in the Central Division and fourth overall in the Western Conference. The Preds also have an abundance of money (more than $9M according to capgeek.com) remaining against this year’s salary-cap.
Begin, 32, has been an unrestricted free-agent since his one-year deal in Boston expired on on July 1. Begin was drafted 40th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. The Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, native is a vertern of 486 career NHL games, 52-48-100 totals and 535 penalty minutes. Last year in Boston, the gritty center posted 5-9-14 totals with 53 PIM and 100 shots on goal.
One of my favorite players to talk to in the locker room, it’s great to see a great guy get another shot this NHL season.
