BOSTON — The losses of Nathan Horton and Rich Peverley — and most recently Andrew Ference — give Bruins fans a sense of worry.

But now that worrisome feeling in The Hub of Hockey could turn into a little bit of panic after Tuukka Rask left Saturday’s 3-2 loss against the New York Islanders at the TD Garden with a lower body injury.

The Finnish netminder left the game at the 9:01 mark of the second period — with the game tied at 1-1 — being helped off the ice by his fellow teammates and did not return. Tim Thomas replaced Rask (11 saves) and let up two goals on 13 shots.

BOSTON – If the Boston Bruins were portrayed as Superman, then the Carolina Hurricanes have provided the kryptonite.

Behind a 47-save shutout from goaltender Cam Ward the lowly Canes completed the season sweep against the Black and Gold – second in the Eastern Conference – in their 3-0 victory Thursday night at the TD Garden.

During last weekend’s All Star break Bruins Daily’s own Anthony Travalgia sat down with Jesse Connolly who is the Bruins beat writer for the New England Hockey Journal and discussed some topics surrounding the Bruins.

1) In the latest issue of your New England Hockey Journal magazine you posted some tweets from Bruins fans answering your question of which Bruins player has been the team’s Most Valuable Player thus far. In your opinion who has been the Bruins MVP to date?

You saw a pretty wide array of answers to that question, and I believe with good reason. From the dynamite goaltending tandem of Tuukka Rask and Tim Thomas to the balanced scoring from all the forwards, it’s truly hard to peg one player that stands out – by leaps and bounds, at least – above the rest.

Thomas thankful for cheers from home crowd

(Photo: Bridget Samuels/) Tim Thomas made his first start in Boston since "White House gate" and got a standing ovation from the sold out TD Garden crowd.

One of the many great things about this country is the ability to be free, but sometimes when people exercise their ability to use their freedom, it rubs people the wrong way, just ask Bruins goalie Tim Thomas about that statement.

Thomas sent the sports world —especially the Boston media— into an absolute frenzy last week when he exercised his freedom and chose not to join his Bruins teammates at the White House where they were honored by President Barack Obama for their Stanley Cup victory just a season ago.

Thomas addressed his decision on his Facebook page, simply stating he was not happy with the United States Government and therefore he would not attend the meet and greet.

Forget about Tim Thomas’ snubbing President Barack Obama.

Forget that the Bruins have struggled in the first few weeks of January.

Forget that the Black and Gold recently completed a seven-game in eleven night stretch — going 3-3-1 — as heavy legs showed in a sloppy 5-3 loss to the Washington Capitals Tuesday night at the Verizon Center.

The All Star break has arrived and the Bruins can now spend some time for a little R and R while preparing for the home stretch of the 2011-12 season.
