Bruins looking for déjà vu on upcoming road trip

No one will ever forget the story of the 2010-11 Boston Bruins. It was a story of up’s and downs which obviously ended with a Stanley Cup Championship, but the path the team took to get there was an interesting one.

Flip the calendar back to last February and you’ll see this year’s team in the same boat as last year’s club. After dropping four of five and three straight overall the Bruins hit the road for a six-game road trip.

When they left Boston and headed for New York they had no idea the next 11 days would change their season, and change it for the best.

The black and gold swept the six-game road trip including an entertaining affair in Vancouver in what many people correctly predicted as a possible Stanley Cup preview.

Bruins falling behind the 8-ball

BOSTON — Call it a midseason slump. Call it getting through the February doldrums. Call it the pre-trade deadline jitters.

Call it whatever you want, but the fact is, the Boston Bruins are not playing their best hockey with 28 games left in the 2011-12 campaign.

Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to Henrik Lundqvist (42 saves in the shutout) and the New York Rangers was just another example of the Bruins’ subpar play in the last several weeks.

When Facebook, political, and hockey worlds collide

Tim Thomas is not doing himself any favors when it comes to addressing his political issues on Facebook.

Just days after his infamous snub of President Barack Obama when he honored the 2010-11 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins, Thomas stuck to his guns during the All-Star Game in Ottawa and after that he received a standing ovation from the TD Garden crowd in the team’s 6-3 win over the Senators.

Case closed, right? Well fast forward a week later where Thomas posted another status updated in his support for Catholics during a controversial mandate on birth control supported by the Obama Administration.

Bruins Daily player of the week: Jan 30- Feb 5

The Bruins returned to game action this past Tuesday after having a week off due to the National Hockey League’s All Star Game. Zdeno Chara, Tim Thomas and Tyler Seguin were the three Bruins players who represented the Hub of Hockey in Ottawa for All Star Weekend.

The week started off with a third period come back against the Senators, followed by back-to-back losses to the Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins. The B’s finished the week on a high note with a Sunday afternoon win over the Washington Capitals.
