BOSTON — Joni Pitkanen gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead after firing a slap shot past Tuukka Rask glove side — one that the Bruins netminder should have stopped — but the most talked about moment of the period happened in what Jack Edwards would like to call a “donnybrook”. After 20: Hurricanes 1 – Bruins 0

BOSTON — Anthony Stewart’s goal 2:47 in is good enough to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Bruins outshot the Hurricanes 13-10 at the end of the first, but goaltender Cam Ward has looked solid between the Carolina net.

Tuukka leads em out

(S. Babineau/Getty) Tuukka Rask will get his second start of the season tonight vs. the Carolina Hurricanes at the TD Garden

BOSTON — As expected, goaltender Tuukka Rask — making his second start of the year — leads the Bruins out for tonight’s matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes. Rask will go up against Cam Ward, who made 28 saves in the ‘Canes 3-2 win last week in Raleigh.

Defenseman Adam McQuaid will miss his second straight contest and third of the year with a neck injury. Matt Bartkowski will get the nod as the Bruins’ sixth defenseman.

Gameday: Bruins vs. ‘Canes round two

Despite falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in the first of their two-game road trip last week, the Bruins redeemed themselves and got back on track with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. The Black and Gold will look to avenge their loss to the ‘Canes from last week when the two teams lock up for the second time this year tonight at the TD Garden.

Bruins Daily Bruins player of the week 10/10-10/16

The Bruins played three times this past week going 1-2 in those three games. The Bruins started the week off with a tough 1-0 loss Monday afternoon to the Colorado Avalanche. Wednesday night the B’s hit the road for the first time and came out of that one with another frustrating loss, this time losing 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The black and gold ended the week with a big 3-2 shootout win in Chicago on Saturday.

It was difficult to come up with a player of the week in a week where the Bruins did not play well, but after going back and looking at all three games one person stuck out a little more than the rest.
