After 40: Bruins-3 Maple Leafs-1

The Bruins and Maple Leafs end the second period the way they started it with the Bruins holding a 3-1 lead. The Bruins started to sit back a bit and got sloppy towards the end of the period. The B’s need to keep in mind that the Leafs erased a two-goal third period deficit last night against the Jets in their 4-3 shootout win. Heres a recap of what went down in the second peirod.

Steckel takes down Daniel Pallie and the Bruins go back on the power play where they failed to score. Back to the normal power play for the B’s.

The Leafs go on the power play just seconds after killing of the Bruins power play when Chara gets nailed for a very questionable tripping call. The power play didn’t last long after Mikhail Grabovski gets sent to the box for holding Patrice Bergeron’s stick. The 4-4 was short lived thanks to a Johnny Boychuk hook.

After 20: Bruins-3 Maple Leafs-1

After Toronto took an early 1-0, the Bruins scored three unanswered goals taking a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. The Bruins went 2-2 on the power play, yes folks you are reading this correct 2-2, 100%, any other ways to describe scoring on each other power play. David Krejci looks like he hasn’t skipped a beat as No. 46 has looked very well in his first action since a core injury sidelined him for the previous three games. The Bruins come out of the gate with some high energy, and Shawn Thornton kept it going with a spirted fight with Colton Orr.

David Steckel beats Tim Thomas glove side on a shot Thomas probably should had, giving the Leafs the 1-0 lead.

The Bruins get the first man advantage of the night after  Matt Frattin gets nailed with an interference penalty.  Nathan Horton tied things at one after putting home a loose puck after a Zdeno Chara bullet from the point. The third Bruins power play goal of the season.

Recchi closes book on Hall-Of-Fame career

(Brian Babineau/Getty Images) Recchi was on the ice for the banner ceremony and was presented with the Bruins jacket.

There’s no better way to end an amazing career then the way Mark Recchi ended his. The future first ballot Hall-Of-Famer called it quits after winning his third Stanley Cup last season. Recchi was suited up on the ice as the Bruins passed Lord Stanley’s Cup around minutes before raising their championship banner to the TD Garden rafters, and it was a great feeling seeing No. 28 skating around one last time.

Last night’s ceremony was the end of the final chapter of Recchi’s Hall-Of-Fame career; it was certainly an emotional night for him.

Bruins put last year behind after banner night

BOSTON – In any circumstance, an opening night loss usually takes place due to teams being a step slow and a bit out of rhythm to start the season.

While that circumstance could have easily been used for the Bruins in their 2-1 loss to the Flyers on banner night at the TD Garden Thursday, the bigger result came with the opening ceremonies with the banner being raised and the other glamour that went along with it.

“I think as much of a challenge as it was, I still thought we came out fine in the first 10 minutes,” said Bruins coach Claude Julien after the loss. “Somehow we kind of lost our step.”

The Bruins are certainly disappointed with the result from Thursday. But that didn’t mean that they did not appreciate the pregame festivities.

Boston Bruins report card: No. 21 Andrew Ference

Everyday, Thehubofhockey.net will be handing out report cards for the 2010-11 NHL Stanley Cup Champions, Boston Bruins.

In order of jersey number, each individual will be showcased and given out a final grade for their regular season and playoff  efforts.

Today we’ll be looking at blue-liner, Andrew Ference.
