Losing a series in the playoffs is no doubt frustrating, losing in seven games is even more frustrating, and losing three of those four on home ice just takes the cake. So after Wednesday’s Game 7 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals, it’s very easy to see why the Bruins frustration level is through the roof.

Thanks to their second straight Northeast division title and the Eastern Conference’s second seed, the Bruins had home ice locked up to at least the Eastern Conference Finals, but home ice wasn’t so sweet for the defending Stanley Cup Champions.

The B’s managed just one playoff win on home ice, certainly letting down the 17,565 excited Bruins fans that packed the TD Garden each night.

(Photo: Bridget Samuels) Dennis Seidenberg was one of the few bright spots for the Bruins in their seven game series loss to the Washington Capitals

You may not find his name in the Norris Trophy finalists, but Dennis Seidenberg continued to show why he is so valuable to the Boston Bruins. Last night during Game 7 when most of the team did not come to play, Seidenberg came to work, ready to rumble. He was beating everyone to the puck, taking hits, giving hits and blocking shots at the most important times.

Seidenberg finished with three points in seven games for the Bruins (one goal, two assists), but it was his toughness and determination that doesn’t show up in the stat sheet that made him one of the best players on the ice for the Black and Gold.

After six hard fought one goal games it shouldn’t shock anyone that thanks to overtime for the fourth time in the series, Game 7 was a one goal game, unfortunately for the Bruins, it’s the last one goal game they will play this season.

Joel Ward scored 2:57 into overtime as the Washington Capitals dethroned the defending Stanley Cup Champions in their own building.

“I went for a change and Knubs [Mike Knuble] made a big block there and I assumed we had a little bit of a break up ice so try to take a chance and I knew he was going to take it to the rack and I just tried to follow it up as best as I could” said Ward. “You know, I just saw the puck laying there and I just took a whack at it and it went in.”

Bruins and Caps destined to go seven

The Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals have had so many close calls through six games. So it’s no surprise that when Tyler Seguin scored the game-winner 3:17 into overtime Sunday in Game 6 at the Verizon Center that this game would be decided by a Game 7 — a feat that the Black and Gold faced three times during last year’s Cup run and won each meeting against the Montreal Canadiens (first round), Tampa Bay Lightning (Eastern Conference Finals) and Vancouver Canucks (Cup Finals), respectively.

For while each game has seen its share of questionable officiating, all six games have been decided by one goal — including three in overtime — marking the first time that feat has occured in postseason history. Couple that with some good goaltending on both ends of the ice from Braden Holtby and Tim Thomas and you have yourself a highly entertaining series.

It’s a perfect reason why this isn’t your typical 2-7 first round matchup.

WASHINGTON DC — For the first five games against the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins forward Tyler Seguin had been held without a point and shifted between his original linemates of Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand in Games 1 and 2 to a line with David Krejci and Milan Lucic in Games 3-6.

In Game 6, however, Seguin finally broke through in the scoring department with a goal and an assist and scored the overtime winner just 3:17 into the extra session — taking a feed from Milan Lucic to slide one past an agressive Braden Holtby — and gave the Black and Gold a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Center and forced a seventh and decisive contest Wednesday night at the TD Garden.
