Patrice Bergeron will join the rest of his teammates and play overseas until the lockout in the National Hockey League is over. It was unclear is Bergy was going to play overseas, but on Tuesday he finally agreed to play for HC Lugano despite having multiple offers from teams in Finland.

“Patrice wanted to keep his game in shape and at the same time he was intrigued by the idea of getting to see a beautiful country,” said agent Kent Hughes. “The offer from Finland was attractive too, but all in all the Swiss experience just looked more appealing.”

The 27-year-old played in all but one game in the 2011 season tallying 22 goals and 42 assists. His plus 36 while on the ice led the entire NHL. Bergy won the Selke Trophy in 2011  and was finally noticed for his relentless two-way hockey skills.

Bergy will square off against teammate and linemate Tyler Seguin on October 20th as Bergy’s HC Lugano will square off versus Seguin’s EHC Biel.
